Pettitte, Jorgensen Named in Mitchell Report

By Chris Mycoskie

The results of a 20-month investigation by former senator George Mitchell were released Thursday afternoon.

It's a 400-page document, which includes an all-star line-up of current and former Major League Baseball players, some linked to steriods, others to human growth hormone.

Baton Rouge-born Andy Pettitte is one of the superstars named in the Mitchell Report. So is LSU product Ryan Jorgensen, who played for the Fighting Tigers from 1998 to 2000. Jorgensen's 50 game suspension in September 2007 is specifically mentioned, as he was found to have violated the league's drug prevention program based on non-analytic evidence.

Other big names include Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and new Astro Miguel Tejada. Over 80 players were pegged in all.

Senator Mitchell says "everyone involved in baseball over the past two decades" shares the responsibility to some extent.

As far as punishment, MLB commissioner Bud Selig says that will be decided on a case by case.
