This Saturday's LSU-Appalachian State game will mark the first time two reigning college football national champions will face each other to open the next season.
For the Mountaineers, last season's title was their third straight, but their first game is what really put them on the map.
Tiger players have seen this video a lot during the off-season, and it'll probably be played in the film room a few more times before Saturday's kickoff arrives. Some call it the biggest upset in sports history: Appalachian State's win over Michigan to start the 2007 campaign.
Coach Les Miles -- a former Wolverine himself -- says he didn't get to watch it live, but saw plenty of coverage when it was over. At that point, he had no idea that Appalachian State would be following up that trip to the Big House with a visit to Death Valley.
App-State won't be able to surprise anyone this time around, though. Everyone on the Tiger roster knows what the Mountaineers can do.
“We saw that Michigan took them lightly, but us, we’re not going to take them lightly,” defensive tackle Ricky-Jean Francois said. “We’re going to give them the same respect that should every team in the country give them. We’re going to give them that respect and treat them like a legit Division 1 school.”
“They’re good guys,” center Brett Helms said. “There’s no doubt, what they did to Michigan last year and all the other teams they beat. They’re very quick and very physical up front. We know we gotta take advantage of it.”
It’ll be a four o’clock start on Saturday in Death Valley. Big surprise: it’s going to be really hot! Chief meteorologist Nelson Robinson is calling for a high of 92 in Baton Rouge.
