LSU Tigers defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois provided some big-time bulletin board material for Florida. LSU tried to do some damage control, but the quote had already been absorbed by every local and national media outlet.
Here’s what Ricky told
orlandosentinel.com: "If we get a good shot on (Tim Tebow), we're going to try our best to take him out of the game. With his size and his heart, it’s hard to get a clean shot.”
He continued, saying: "I think every lineman wants to get a good hit on a Heisman Trophy winner."
Then late Tuesday afternoon, LSU issued a press release, with clarification from Jean-Francois. He said his words were misinterpreted, and that the Tigers never go into any football game trying to hurt someone. By taking him out of the game, he said, he meant the defense would try to make him ineffective.
It’s doubtful that will do anything to calm the Gators or their fans down, but in all reality, words won't matter Saturday night. How these young men play will decide who walks out of Florida Field as a winner.
Kickoff is scheduled for seven o’clock Saturday night.
