It has been smooth sailing for the LSU football team to this point. They’ve cruised to a 3-0 start. But, the meat of their schedule will start this Saturday when they welcome Auburn to Baton Rouge to kickoff SEC play.

“It’s just exciting. It’s what you look for and what you come [to LSU] for, to play in games like this,” sophomore cornerback Jalen Mills said.

The verdict isn’t out on Auburn just yet. They do look much better than they did a year ago when they started the season 1-2. This year, under first year head coach Gus Malzahn, the Tigers are off to a 3-0 start. Saturday they snapped a 10-game conference losing streak when they defeated Mississippi State.

“They are a balanced offense, both run and pass. I think that they have improved. They play hard for their coach and I wouldn't expect anything differently,” Les Miles said at his weekly Monday press conference.

Again, it is still early in the year. But if the LSU offense who’s averaging 46 points a game can keep pace they’ll be tough to beat. Especially if senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger who leads the SEC in passing efficiency can continue his fast start to the 2013.

“We are going to have to go out there and execute and run the football well and complete some balls against a talented secondary. We also are going to have to take care of the ball and not have any turnovers like we have the last three weeks,” Mettenberger said.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. LSU hasn’t trailed in any game this season.
