Brant Legendre rushed for two touchdowns, including the game winner midway through the fourth quarter, as Parkview Baptist came from behind to defeat Westlake, 19-18, and win the Class 3A Louisiana High School Athletic Association Championship on Friday night in the Superdome.

Legendre began the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and ended it with a 1-yard touchdown run that completed a 12-0 fourth-quarter comeback.

The Eagles, champions of District 8-3A, finished 15-0 in winning their first state title since 2001. The Rams, champions of District 4-3A, finished 14-1.

Earlier Friday, John Curtis defeated St. James, 28-13, to win the Class 2A state championship. Three more titles will be decided Saturday when South Plaquemines and West St. John meet in Class 1A, Archbishop Shaw and Bastrop meet in Class 4A, and Destrehan and Acadiana meet in Class 5A.

After Legendre's first touchdown gave Parkview a 7-0 lead, Vincent Collins returned the ensuing kickoff 74 yards for a touchdown that made the score 7-6 with 6:41 left in the first quarter.

Westlake took the lead, 12-7, after Brandon Ballou caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Trent Whitley with 5:39 left in the second quarter.

The Rams extended the lead to 18-7 when T.J. Juranka recovered a fumble in the Eagles' end zone with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

Parkview started its comeback on Bryant Voth's 5-yard touchdown run with 11:56 left in the game and finished it on Legendre's second touchdown run with 8:33 left in the game. After the initial touchdown, both teams tried two-point conversions after every subsequent touchdown and each attempt failed.
