Jags team captain Anthony Balancier to be suspended for one quarter
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Southern head football coach Dawson Odums has suspended linebacker Anthony Balancier for the first quarter of Saturday’s home opener.
The senior team captain will sit the bench for comments he made publicly about Northwestern State last week.
Southern will play their first SWAC game Saturday when they host Prairie View A&M at A.W. Mumford Stadium. Southern is currently 0-2 on the season.
“We didn’t dig our self a hole in the conference. We haven’t played well but we understand fully that we open up with Prairie View A&M at home. We got a chance to get back on winning ways. Don’t worry about what everyone is saying around you. We are in this fox hole together and we have to keep digging,” Odums said Tuesday.
The 1993 Southern team will be honored before the game. It’s been 20 years since that group took home the SWAC Championship.
Tickets for the game are still available.
