LSU men's tennis adds standout signee for 2012-13 season
BATON ROUGE, LA — LSU men’s tennis head coach Jeff Brown announced Thursday that Boris Arias has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Tigers.
Arias hails from La Paz, Bolivia and will compete as a freshman at LSU for the 2012-13 season.
Arias is currently ranked 1,089 in the ATP doubles standings and 1,095 in the singles rankings, and he has been listed as high as No. 64 in the world in juniors tennis.
“Boris Arias is a high-level, world-ranked competitor who comes from a great family,” Brown said. “We are very excited to have him join our program, and we expect an immediate impact from him.”
A 6-1 right-hander, Arias won the singles title at the 2011 Junior South American Championships by defeating the No. 2 junior player in the world in the finals.
Arias captured the doubles title at the Bolivia F1 Futures event in 2011, and he also reached the singles quarterfinal round at the Peru F4 Futures event.
Arias joins a stellar LSU recruiting class that features five-star signees Tam Trinh of Dallas, Texas and Harrison Kennedy of Suwanee, Ga., who inked with the Tigers in November 2011.
