System president John Lombardi has named Duke athletic director Joe Alleva to the same position at LSU. He was one of four finalists named by the search committee earlier this week.

The other finalists were Kentucky deputy AD Rob Mullens and a pair of in-house candidates, associate LSU athletic directors Verge Ausberry and Herb Vincent.

Alleva has led Duke's athletic department since 1998.

The announcement was made official at a six o'clock press conference on campus.
