Technically, the NFL Draft begins Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, but the Dolphins have already made their first pick and signed him. Michigan's Jake Long inked a five-year deal worth over $57 million Tuesday.
The St. Louis Rams own the number two pick, and LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey looks like their man, but the league has asked them to hold off on announcing the selection until after the live broadcast goes on the air.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Dorsey is at the top of the Rammies' board, but the same article speculates that his name could have been leaked in an attempt to bring in more trade offers.
Rumors are still circulating about the Saints possibly trading up so they can grab Dorsey with the second pick.
We'll have to wait a little longer to find out Dorsey's destination, but he'd be perfectly happy with making the gateway city his new home.
“It’s a great city. Down in St. Louis, I enjoyed my time there when I visited,” Dorsey said. “It’s tough to get a take from teams, because these teams want to get know you as a person.”
Saturday brings the first and second rounds of the draft. Rounds three through seven are Sunday. That's when Craig Steltz is expected to go.
The latest Fox Sports mock draft has the Archbishop Rummel product going to the Washington Redskins with the 96th overall pick, which would make him a third round selection.
Thanks to a shoulder injury, Steltz couldn't participate in the Senior Bowl or the combine, but he put up some amazing numbers at LSU’s pro day, impressing scouts and cementing his status as a quality prospect.
“You’re going through a process that you have an opportunity to go through one time in your life,” Steltz said. “The past two times, going to high school and going to college, you had an opportunity to choose where you wanted to go. Now, you’re sitting back waiting for someone to choose which team you play for.”
