The LSU-Ole Miss football series dates back to 1894, but only now does it have a name. Starting this year, Tigers vs. Rebels will be called the "Magnolia Bowl," and a trophy will be awarded to the winner. The schools' student governments created the new moniker to enhance the rivalry.
The new name won't have any affect on what happens on the field, though. Magnolia Bowl or not, this is an important game for both teams' post-season aspirations.
LSU and Ole Miss are both 3-3 in conference play and trying to nail down second place in the SEC west.
The Bayou Bengals have dominated this series lately, taking six straight, with the last Mississippi win coming in 2001 at Death Valley.
Last Saturday, both teams played non-conference games. While the Tigers needed the biggest comeback in school history to beat Troy, the Rebels destroyed Louisiana-Monroe by a count of 59-0.
