LSU's Mainieri and Bertman raise awareness for ALS with Ice Bucket Challenge
BATON ROUGE, LA — Former LSU baseball head coach Skip Bertman teamed up with current head coach Paul Mainieri to complete the Ice Bucket Challenge.
The two national championship winning coaches were the latest public figures to help raise awareness for ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Right now, there’s no cure or effective treatment for the neuromuscular disease that affects voluntary muscle movement.
Kelly Viator, Executive Director of the ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter, says the trending Ice Bucket Challenge videos are helping raise money and awareness, “Folks are becoming aware of not only the disease and Lou Gehrig's affiliation, but the way in which people are affected by this disease. That is an important aspect.”
