Almost Sugar Bowl Time in NOLA

By Chris Mycoskie

With the Saints in Chicago, the end zones in the Louisiana Superdome are painted in the colors of the Georgia Bulldogs and Hawaii Warriors and the Allstate Sugar Bowl logo has replaced the fleur-de-lis at midfield.

The Bulldogs have been in New Orleans since Wednesday. It’s Georgia's third appearance in the Sugar Bowl in the last six years, although one of those games took place in Atlanta following Hurricane Katrina.

We've talked about it several times before, but this is not the crescent city bowl game the Dawgs hoped to play in this post-season. Heading into the first weekend of December at number four in the BCS standings, UGA players thought they'd have a shot to play in the championship game after number one Missouri and number two West Virginia lost.

Instead, Georgia was left out and is concentrating on running its win streak to seven games vs. the Warriors.

UGA and Hawaii get started at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Watch the game live on FOX.
