Saints come back for win over Kansas City in preseason opener
New Orleans, LA (FOX44) — The backups bailed out the starters for the New Orleans Saints, as a total team effort led to a 17-13 victory over Kansas City in the preseason opener for both teams.
The Saints' defense brought back bad memories of 2012 on its first possession. Kansas City methodically went 80 yards in 14 plays over 6:23 for a touchdown. A long punt return gave them a short field on their second possession, but the Saints held them to a field goal.
Drew Brees played two series. His second drive was the best, covering 74 yards in 10 plays before ending in a short field goal.
Luke McCown replaced Brees midway through the second quarter. He threw two touchdown passes to Preston Parker, finishing 18-28 for 216 yards.
The backups on defense also played well, holding Kansas City to just 3 points after the first quarter and forcing one turnover.
The Saints outgained the Chiefs 431-215 in total yards.
