Pine Bluff Next Stop for Southern Hoops

By Chris Mycoskie

The Southern men's basketball team is riding the high of its biggest win of the season.

The Jaguars knocked off now previously undefeated SWAC leader Jackson State Monday while putting up 85 points, their biggest total since last year's regular season finale.

The sudden burst on the scoreboard came as a surprise to plenty of people, but not to anybody inside the program. The Jags have plenty of players capable of scoring. They just struggled to hit a high percentage of shots early in the season.

The Southern men and women head to Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday, but the Lady Jaguars aren't carrying the same momentum into their battle with the Golden Lions.

After leading at the half Monday against Jackson State, the Lady Jags suffered a horrible drought in the final period, not scoring for 12 minutes.

The way they fell apart down the stretch makes the loss to Lady Tigers especially painful.

Redshirt freshman Freda Allen says Jackson State wasn't as good as the Lady Jags thought they would be, but Southern still fell short.
