Southern's weekend baseball series with Arkansas-Pine Bluff got off to an amazing start. The Jaguars scored 10 runs in the first inning of the opening game Saturday. They went on to win 21-8.
They followed that up with a 12-5 victory in Saturday's nightcap and then came back to capture Sunday's game, 13-12, to complete a sweep of UAPB.
Those three wins improve Southern's record to 18-11 overall and 11-5 in the SWAC. That’s good enough for first place in the western division.
“We have to do a lot more, play a lot better and get more good quality pitching,” head coach Roger Cador said. “I think if we’re able to do that, then the sky’s the limit for this team, because when we look at how we stack up against the other teams in our league, I think we’re in good shape.”
