Ten former LSU players have been assigned to minor league teams as they begin their careers in professional baseball.

A school-record nine members of the Tigers’ 2013 College World Series team were selected in the MLB Draft, and eight of them have embarked upon their pro careers, including pitcher Ryan Eades, second baseman JaCoby Jones, first baseman Mason Katz, pitcher Nick Rumbelow, pitcher Will LaMarche, catcher Ty Ross, pitcher Chris Cotton and outfielder Raph Rhymes.

The ninth drafted player from the Tigers’ 2013 club, third baseman Christian Ibarra, plans to return to LSU for his senior season.

Pitcher Brent Bonvillain was not drafted; however, he signed a free-agent deal with the Kansas City Royals.

Former LSU pitcher Chad Jones, who helped lead the Tigers to the 2009 national championship, was chosen in the ’13 draft by the Cincinnati Reds and has also received a minor league assignment.

Four LSU signees were selected in the MLB Draft, and two of them – infielder Justin Williams (2nd round, Diamondbacks) and right-handed pitcher David Palladino (5th round, Yankees) - have already signed pro contracts.

The other LSU signees that were drafted are outfielder/first baseman Nick Longhi (30th round, Red Sox) and right-handed pitcher Parker Bugg (34th round, Orioles).

The deadline for drafted players to sign a pro contract is 4 p.m. CT on Friday, July 12. Longhi and Bugg are eligible to enroll at LSU if they do not sign prior to the deadline.
