Evacuations are rushed
Hurricane Irene re-emerges over the Atlantic Ocean and could strengthen before making another East Coast landfall.
Hurricane warnings have been issued for millions of residents from Virginia to Canada, including New York City which is bracing for the worst.
Irene is forecasted to pick up forward speed reducing the amount of evacuation time. Storm tides values are very location-specific but surges of 4-8 feet are predicted and this will be above the normal high tide levels.
Rainfall produced by Irene will produce accumulations of 6-12 inches with isolated amounts of 20 inches. This falls after several weeks of heavy rain. Significant flooding is forecasted.
