Three thousand Louisiana National Guardsmen are training for a special mission in Iraq that will include working a security detail in the region.

The 256th Infantry Brigade is made of troops from Baton Rouge, New Orleans and other Louisiana communities. They’ve called Camp Shelby in Mississippi home for nearly two months.

Daily training consists of working with real Iraqi citizens contracted by the U.S. government.

It’s only a drill but military officials say this realistic training could prove to be life-saving overseas.
