Louisiana is ringing in the New Year with several new laws including one that gives diners the right to know where their crawfish is coming from.
If asked restaurants are now required to tell their customers whether their mudbugs are homegrown or imported from foreign seas. The law was passed not only to promote eating locally but also for safety reasons.
The law’s supporters allege cheaper Chinese crawfish are harvested out of ponds of human waste. They claim even when fully cooked the contaminants found in the crawfish can still be hazardous to people’s health.
