Jesse Gunkel has always had a fascination for how things work and why things happen. Growing up in Wisconsin gave him the opportunity to experience some pretty interesting weather from blizzards and extreme cold temperatures to tornadoes and severe weather. Finding an answer to the wild weather led him to study meteorology.
Jesse received his degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography and is currently working on getting his seals of approval from the National Weather Service and American Meteorological Society.
Before coming to Baton Rouge, Jesse worked at Weather Central, Inc. As an intern, he had the responsibility of providing forecasts and graphics for both local and national newspapers all over the country. As a full time employee, he trained, installed, and developed their interactive weather software for national and international television stations. Because of the opportunity, he has been in nearly every state in the United States.
For fun, he likes anything that involves the outdoors. Jesse is a big fan of football, baseball, golf, boating, and fishing. To show his dedication, he even fished on ice with below zero temperatures.
Although he considers himself a true Badger, Jesse is now a huge fan of LSU football, baseball, and basketball. He has fallen in love with the cuisine, the live music, and the people. Jesse is glad to call Southern Louisiana home.
